Instagram. Facebook. Twitter. Tumblr. Tinder? All of these apps that have been created with different aims lately appear to have grown to the same aspiration. When Twitter remains different from any other thanks to its rule of 140 characters and its non-belonging to the huge Facebook, the other social media have become the place to see and to be seen. Lately, Instagram, the service to share square images with the world, has started to be THE app of massive share. « Have you seen what xxx posted on Instagram? » or « Oh! Yeah! I’ve seen this on Instagram! » or « I check my Instagram first thing in the morning; that’s my way of knowing what’s happening in the world. » These sentences are the one that I hear more and more, that I hear at least once per day.
But these past few months, Instagram has also become the place to discover the fact that men can be cute, pretty and sexy — don’t worry, they are in real life as well. In New York, in Paris, in London not only can they be hot, but they can also be hot and read. Goodbye to the right to be quietly cute and hello to the 21st century single people — or not — brightening up their sad weeks with the beauty and cheeky smile of these men.

Mainly based in tubes, and sometimes going in national rail trains, these two instagram accounts share with the world with pictures of really-wow men. But my question then become: do these men really exist? or are they paid by friends to sit in the tube when a picture of their face is taken? Let me explain why…

I was in Paris last week, and as a lot of people travelling around the city trying to avoid touristic spots, I took the metro. As I had talked about MecsMetroParis on Frenchie Fringe, I knew that some random people were randomly taking pictures of random men in the tube. In a week, not only have I not seen anyone taking a picture (which is extremely likely to happen, I admit), but I have also found myself unable to find cute men. Where were they? Where are they? Do they exist? I need answers…

People from London are not left out of this trend; the people in charge of it have only decided that Tumblr. was a better platform (TubeCrush), so did the people from Manhattan (MenOfTheMetro). The principle, however, is the same: where you can find hot (British) men in the tube, quickly take your phone out of your pocket and shoot this man with hundreds of picture to get at least a good one.

• After they travelled, these men appeared to be thirsty for a coffee. Once again, social media were here for people to create a page sharing this moment with the rest of the world. MenAndCoffee is an instagram account with wonderful almost professional pictures of men with their cup of coffee, shirt on or off. Whether they are famous or anonymous, these men show that you can be hot and happy when drinking coffee — or just holding a cup.

Quite frankly, I have never seen a man being so hot and happy in front of a cup of coffee. So, this is an official call to all of the men out there: go under the perfect light and look happy and mysterious while drinking a coffee. This will give you the attention of real-life people that you can actually talk to, and me.
